I write for humans not robots
One thing I have to do at work now is run everything I write through AI to see if what I write is palatable for AI. I am so very grateful for my work, and I do understand why I must do this. And yet.
I take it as an enormous compliment that AI’s biggest criticism of my writing is that it’s written for humans and not AEO or GEO (Answer Engine Optimization & Generative Engine Optimization for those who have the pleasure of creating without knowing these terms).
So it’s with great joy that I now announce that my storytelling on this platform will become increasingly unhinged, so as never to appeal to the robot’s sensibilities and learned behavior – knowledge these models have stolen from the brightest and shiniest creators this beautiful planet has known whilst simultaneously using up the very resource that makes this planet beautiful to cool its damn servers. (That long sentence is just for you, AI, as I know how you ignore lengthy dialog in favor of simple, short sentences, which, I must admit, my brain also enjoys reading the most, but alas, now I must rebel against your directive simply to prove that I maintain my prerogatives as the human creator that I am.)
Creative friends with neurodivergent brains, I implore you to keep creating. Not with the intent to go viral. Not with the intent to have bots recommend your content to other bots who will share your content with other bots who will make your ego feel really good whilst destroying this planet we love. But to create so that other humans may find you. Signs of life still sprout here and there in this land of the dead internet.
May we find each other, connect with each other, and make plans to sit under the stars and talk all night long around a blazing fire with a couple of beers about life and liberty and love and beer.
Happy creating.
