Are we blind to new opportunities?
My little dog is a low rider. His legs are only four inches long. If there’s something on the ground to be found, he’s on it. He chases scents constantly. But I spend a lot of time chuckling to myself, because he misses so much (Cats! Squirrels!) due to his vantage point.
It’s not his instinct to look up. So he misses the cat perched on the fence, watching his every move. He doesn’t see the squirrel high above him in the tree. Even when I encourage him to look around, he’s satisfied keeping his nose to the ground.
It makes me wonder how often I’m like Leo — chasing something so intently that I never bother to look up or around to see opportunities in plain sight.
Right now, so many of us are attuned to the fight. Are we missing opportunities to make a difference, to build something better, to create something new? Are we like Leo — missing the very thing we’re hunting because we refuse to look up?
