The value of playfulness

Tonight I looked at some mindfulness cards and this phrase popped out at me:

Playful minds are open minds.

I’ve never given this much thought until just now. But I do tend to vibe best with people who are naturally playful. And connecting with those people comes naturally as well — even when we come from different worlds.

The card also says how when we start a new practice, such as a meditation practice, it can feel like work.

The card reminds me that mindfulness can be playful. It suggests spending 20 minutes doing something goofy. Need ideas?

Write a funny text to your bestie or draw your dog on a skateboard or sing Mariah Carey in the shower. Dance to your favorite jingle. (🎵 Save big money at Menards🎵) Make faces at a baby. Pop a wheelie. Hang upside down. Spin. Whistle.

Being playful is a mindful act of joy.

And don’t forget what Mary Oliver says about joy.

Joy is not meant to be a crumb.

Indulge.
