Things I know about Now

Now is literally the only place you can physically be. Yet our minds turn us into time travelers. We spend a lot of our precious time planning our futures and ruminating on our pasts.

Now is a place we notice through our physical bodies. But we also tend to recognize Now when our emotions are heightened.

Now is most easily accessed through our bodies via discomfort. Now is so easy to access when we’re a mile from home on our run and we need a bathroom. Now is easy to find when our back hurts from walking in bad shoes or are jeans are too tight or we’re stifling a sneeze.

Now is a space of infinite potential. Every potentiality exists here in this now. Timelines you’re not even brave enough to consider and miracles you never knew to ask for — they all exist — right NOW.

Meditation helps us practice being in this Now, when it’s boring and mundane to be here Now. Tapping into our bodies through our senses is another great way to be here Now.

When it’s possible — and truly, it’s possible in most of your nows — practice appreciation for what’s in your Now. Notice what it feels like in your body to feel appreciation for something outside of you.

Creating something with your hands brings you into this now. It doesn’t have to be a work of art. Swirl a spatula through your cracked egg. Draw a snail in the steam on your shower.

Listen to music. Notice something beautiful. Notice something beautiful in someone else. Tell them.
